Before starting imiquimod and every time you receive a refill, read the affected person facts pamphlet that your pharmacist sent. Ask your pharmacist or physician any queries you may have.Use this drug as sparingly as possible. You should apply this medication to the affected area or areas as prescribed by your doctor, usually right before bed. Use a fresh packet for each dose if you are using single-use packets. If you are using the pump, prime it according to the instructions before using it.
How to Work Aldara 5%
Wash your hands and the area you'll be handling with a little soap and water before applying. Dry the area well. As instructed, apply a thin layer of medication to the affected area or areas, then rub it in. After each application, wash your hands with soap and water. Avoid using bandages or water-resistant covers on the affected area.If you are treating the vaginal area, you can wear cotton underwear or cover the area with cotton gauze. Leave the cream on overnight, usually for 8 hours if treating basal cell carcinoma or actinic keratoses, or 6 to 10 hours if treating warts. During this period, refrain from taking a bath. To remove the cream, wash the treated area with soap and water in the morning. Avoid using imiquimod cream for longer than is recommended.
